Have you ever underestimated yourself? I think underestimating ourselves is a common occurrence. We doubt what we can do, what we can achieve, and what we are capable of!
Especially in the workplace, we doubt the type of work we can apply for and our qualifications for specific positions. Of course, if the specifications for applying call for a Doctorate and you only have a Bachelor’s Degree, chances are you won’t get that position, but what about some of the other positions you’ve been eyeballing on job search sites?
Don’t let titles with the words manager, director, or leader scare you from applying for those positions if you truly believe you fit the job description. You don’t always have to grow within a company in order to obtain a higher position.
My first director position had a job description listed with the application. I went through each qualification and responsibility and was able to check them off when I compared them to my own resume and experience. Even though I had not had formal managerial experience, I had performed responsibilities that showed management potential.
My experience along with my confidence during the interview landed me the job! The biggest thing I had behind my application was my belief in myself.
