“This above all, to thine own self be true.” The simple truth of Shakespeare’s words remind us that no matter what environment we’re placed in, what situation or decision is before us, not matter where we venture – don’t lose yourself in that process. If you can’t stay true to who you are, then you’re living a life that doesn’t fit you.
This idea is hugely permeable into the work world. Doing something that pleases you and makes you excited to go to work is fulfilling and being true to yourself. When you feel that you’re working in a job that doesn’t fit you or doesn’t make you happy it’s because you’re not meant to work there! You’re not being true to who you are.
I’ve been in the situation where I needed to have a job – any job – to support myself while looking for a career, but I’m talking about long-term work. Do what makes you happy. Know what motivates you and pursue that path.
