Yes, you took hours to prepare for this interview and put so much effort into everything from your appearance to the effortless answers you gave to each interview question. You can finally shake your interviewer’s hand and let out a nice long breath. ..but wait…there’s more!
Even though I’m sure you thanked your interviewer as you were on your way out the door, that doesn’t cut it. Don’t let the back of your head be the last impression you leave on this potential employer.
Take the time to Say ‘Thank You’
It’s always nice to be thanked. Even though you’ve put in hours of preparation into the interview, the interviewer also spent time preparing for you – they selected you after sorting through piles of resumes, studied your work history and qualifications, and decided to invite you to speak with them in hopes of filling their position.
Take the time to say ‘thank you.’ Take just a moment after your interview to send an email or note of appreciation. Thank your interviewer for their time and conversation. Point out a few key moments in the interview – things you enjoyed learning about the company, or specific characteristics that the interviewer mentioned they were looking for in a candidate and how they correspond with you.
Not only will your ‘thank you’ show a well-mannered candidate, it is also another way to put your name in front of the potential employer again. You’re sure to leave a positive impression!
At the end of the day, just know that you aren’t the only one preparing for these interviews. There is a lot of work that goes into an interview on both ends. That deserves a ‘thank you.’
